Why is the speedometer in my 1972 cutlass shaking constantly?
Assuming this happens while you are moving you probably need to replace the speedometer cable.
cowl tag for a 1972 cutlass ST 72-33687 r04303 TR949 A-51 63F 090721 what does this mean
No, you just have to have a small hand to get in back of the speedometer.
Turbo Hydromatic 350 or 400 I think. I have a 1973 and it started with a 350 but it was swapped for the stronger 400. the speedometer will need an adapter or it will send the wrong MPH and it will look like you are going faster than you are.
First generation of Oldsmobile Cutlass went from 1964 to 1967 and the second generation of Oldsmobile Cutlass went from 1968-1972. Third Generation of Olds mobile Cutlass went from 1973-1977.
They will fit, but they will look stupid as hell. Keep in mind the 1972 Cutlass came stock with 14" or 15" wheels. Anything bigger than 18" tends to look really, REALLY stupid on older cars like the '72 Cutlass.

If you are facing the engine from the front of your vehicle it will be on the right side of the motor near the spark plugs .
Yes you could but it has a neutral safety switch for a reason.
84 and 85 cutlass's came with olds 307 small blocks. and others came with V-6's. now an olds 307 will slide right into a 72 cutlass (i have one also (: as long as the cutlass was a v-8 (olds 350 rocket and olds 455's were the v-8s that came in the 72's.) so yes the bolt pattern on the tranny and the engine mounts will all match up with the 307 if the 72.
I put a 1972 350 old's engine in my 1984 cutlass supreme. It had a 307 and the swap went smooth. It bolted rite up to the turbo 350 transmission also. The engines have the same block so the weight difference was no problem. My cutlass is for sale if you know anyone that is interested. ( .040 inch ) according to my Chilton repair manual for the 350 - 2 barrel
For example: A very popular car in 1972 was the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. In 1973 the Monte Carlo, Buick Regal and the Oldsmobile Cutlass Suprime were sold very well. Their prices varied from $4,700US to $6,000US approximatly.
It is done from behind the dash, pull down vent ducts, carefully remove connector, It pulls straight off, There are 2 hex head screws that hold the switch in. If you google cutlass convertible switch you will find a few sources for new ones.
It is inside the car and under the dash. If you have your head by the brake pedal you should be able to see it a little to the left of the brake pedal and up higher.

Most likely other GM cars with a similar body style, like a Chevy Impala or an Oldsmobile Cutlass.
I have a 1971 with a rocket 350 and a 2 barrel carb, and I get about 12 city and 17 hwy, but it can vary alot depending on engine size and other factors.
Certainly not, the standard base engine for the 1972 442 was a 350 2-BBL. Sign up at wildaboutcars.com for free to learn all about almost any year Oldsmobile and what models were offered and what was available.
correct it will fit. be sure to take lots of pictures before you pull all of the wires off. so you have a diagram of where they go after.
In my 72 it is screwed to the firewall above the distributor. It has a post sticking straight out of it with many wires connected to the post and the wires connected to the underside of it which are the horn connections.
My friend had a 72 with a 350 4 bbl. and it was pretty quick for a plain Jane cutlass and it only had a single exhaust on it. My 1972 Olds Cutlass Supreme w/350 4 bbl, single exhaust was the fastest car on Indianapolis Blvd, in Hammond, IN in 1979. My friends made fun of my car because it was a four door. I didn't care. I never had to get out in the… Read More
You cannot get the hood to release on a 1972 cutlass you need to know where the latch is located on the hood and the best way of going about getting it to release?
look under the front of the car and you should see it in the middle behind the grille
Remove the oil pan, unbolt the pump, install the new pump, the pump drive is off the bottom of the distributor and must be aligned to go in properly.
Remove the clock from the dash. Gently insert a small flatblade along the edge of the front case retainer and twist/pop it off. The lens is now easily removed.
1972 caprice classic tops speed is around 115 to 120 top speed with the whole steering wheel shaking, the car can go faster considering the fact the car is pretty heavy and all so theirs your answer
unhook the line from the gas tank and unbolt it from the fuel pump and rip it out, take the old line to the parts store so they can measure it and they will give you enough line to do the job.
Assuming you have all the original parts, check on top of the intake manifold (remove the air cleaner) and it actually should be casted into the intake. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 A note to add, on my 2 Cutlass S's...the distributor moves COUNTER clockwise. 99.999999% sure it will apply to yours as well.
You can possibly make it work, but it won't exactly fit. Length and wiring harness will both likely be different. Now, a '73-'77 steering column for ANY GM A body WILL work.
How much horsepower does a 1972 Oldsmobile cutlass with a455 big block and turbo 350 street strip transmission have?
Considering it doesn't sound like it is stock it's impossible to tell how much HP it has without knowing exactly what has been done to it.
Follow the 1/2" to 5/8" black round hose (usually pre-formed to shape) from carb. Will go to PCV valve in the valve cover on engine heads or will be in the intake manifold(which the carb sits on)
What are you going to do with it? Base model Cutlasses came with an inline 6. Fine for grocery getting. The Olds 350 is a fine motor with many mod and build up possibilities as is the Olds 455. Just need to know what you intend on doing with it.
You have to reach under the dash behind the gauges and twist the rectangular knobs. There should be 2 behind the speedometer, 2 behind the rpm's, 2 for the blinkers, and 2 at the bottom of the rpm gauge. The bulbs will be in the knobs.
