Venus' atmosphere consists mainly of Co2 (Carbon dioxide), while Earth's atmosphere is Co2 and oxygen. Co2 is much denser than oxygen, so it holds more heat from the sunlight.

This trapping of heat by gases is known as the "greenhouse effect", and while we are experiencing a small amount of it on Earth, Venus has a higher concentration of Co2, making the effect MUCH more severe. The effect is also more severe because Venus is closer to the sun.

Actually, Venus has the largest LAND surface area of any other planet.

Earth is slightly larger than Venus, but 72% of Earth's surface is covered by the oceans.

The four planets larger than Earth - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are Gas Giants, with atmospheres so thick we do not know how large the solid cores are. It is assumed that they do have a solid core somewhere, but any probe sent down (so far, just at Jupiter), the probe gets crushed by atmospheric pressure long before it reaches anything solid.

At any rate, Mars is barely 1/2 the size of Earth, but has almost the same Land area.

The surface temperature of Venus is higher than the surface temperatures of the other inner planets because of its thick atmosphere.

Which planets are hotter than the Earth?

All eight planets have a surface temperature, though it varies as the planets distance from the sun varies. Closer planets to the sun generally have a higher surface temperature, while further planets have a colder surface temperature.

Higher than earth

How much higher is the surface pressure of Venus compared with that of earth?

Earth: about 100,000 Pascal at sea level. 100,000 Pascal is also known as 1 bar. Venus: about 92 bar at surface level.

Why venus contain high amount of carbon doixide would its temperature be higher or lower than the temperature?

Much higher. The carbon dioxide is a green house gas and traps the sunlight hitting the surface of Venus. The measurements, though I forget the exact numbers, are many times the average earth temperature.

Is Venus' the next earth?

Not a chance. Venus (surface temperature: 900 degrees F.) will only get hotter as time goes on.

Both are about the same size, but the surface of Earth and Venus are different. Venus is mainly a rocky surface, with highlands, lowlands and plains, with no vegetation or seas.
