Yes because Tupac was very talented and had good messages in most of his songs. He wanted to leave the gang life and celebrity life so he could live peacfully, and that is why he faked his death.

This is gonna be a long answer but probably the only way I can show you cause I can list multiple reason's why I love him and his music but some people can't really relate to his music especially kids who weren't born in that era even though his lyrics still address issues going on today, it's hard to relate to that culture especially if your white and didn't grow up poor or really struggle. That's alot of what he talked about. Don't get me wrong white people love his music too. I'm a white male and I love all his music and for you to better understand, I'll tell you my story on why I love his music. I was only 6 when he died even though I heard my older brother playing his music alot, I didn't truly listen to his music until the movie Tupac Resurrection was in theaters I think I was a 11 and when it came out I asked the same thing. Why do people love this guy so much? So I decided to see what the buzz was about and asked for a c.d. of his for Christmas. I didn't care which c.d. as long as it was by 2pac. the c.d. I got was Me Against the World. I listened to it and was automatically entranced. Then I got to the 9th song on that album which is "Dear Mama" to be honest that was the first song I ever heard throughout my childhood that brought me to tears. He made you feel his pain in that song. So I had that song on repeat until it was imprinted in my brain word for word. After that I wanted to hear all of his song's and I became a bigger fan and started studying his life basically then I realized not only did he make great music but he did great things (also some not so great things) and I started realizing how brutally honest he was and how he truly lived what he talked about. There's not to many artist especially rappers that can say that. I'm mostly impressed by how unselfish he was. Alot of artist get money and fame and forget why they became an artist in the first place, He never did. He set out to change the world for the better and spread a message and he continued to, until he was killed. The reason he also made violent or party/sex/drug songs ect. Is to get people to listen to his other songs too. The more emotional songs. He was smart in that way, he knew people might not listen if all he did was deep emotional song's. Now he gets a bad rap for it sometimes. He affected alot of people from all walks of life including me a white mechanic from Nebraska with a quote by Tupac tattooed on my fore arm so I never forget his message. Before you assume that I'm some wigger. I assure you I'm not I also have a Led Zeppelin tattoo. I'm very aware I'm no "gangsta" I just appreciate his music and his actions. So if your on the fence about him, hopefully this gives you some insight and maybe you'll do some research don't be to quick to dismiss him though you'll be missing out. Listen to "Unconditional Love" "Ghetto Gospel" "Thugs mansion"<<the acoustic version. "Changes" and "Dear Mama" I think you'll make up your mind on those if you really listen. Sorry for the long answer hope it helps.

People still listen to his music because he was a major benefactor and contributor to the new generation of Hip Hop artists and rappers that strive to prove that, even out of the depths of poverty, crime, gang life, and a troubled academic system -- success is still possible.

Tupac Amaru Shakur's legacy will outlive modern rappers and even some of the predecessors that paved the way for even Tupac himself. He blended deep political undertones with a brash sense of lyricism that remains unrivaled this day.

Because humans are prone to contradiction, lies, deception, and much more -- people have connected with Tupac because his lifestyle and his lyrical content at times did not completely line up with each other. Nevertheless, in spite of the incongruent world that he lived in and also created for himself, he still remains the most relevant, meaningful, and passionate Hip Hop artist in music history.

  • Tattoos on rappers weren't "sexy" or "acceptable" until Tupac fashioned them with meaning and purpose on his body. The "Thug Life" tattoo that he wore wrapped around his belly meant -- "The Hate You Gave Little Infants F---- Everybody". Nowadays, you see rappers and even R&B singers with tattoos that cover every inch of their upper body.
  • Tupac lyrically assaulted known politicians, congressmen and congresswomen, and even sitting U.S. presidents and vice presidents at (i.e. C. Delores Tucker, Dan Quail, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton) to strongly advocate his stance on how African Americans have been neglected and uncared for by the U.S.
  • He blended poetry with real-life and real-time scenarios that would play out in the minds of his listeners with accuracy and believable outcomes.
  • Numerous rappers have ripped his style and continue to do so.
  • He was the first mainstream Hip Hop artist to release a double CD and break the RIAA record for most sold albums for a rap artist.
  • He was also an actor with actual acting school experience that had the potential to be the next Denzel Washington or Sidney Poitier.

In closing, people are still listening to Tupac's music because even what he rapped about in 1996 maintains a strong level of relevance and accuracy regarding the issues of our modern time. There is still homelessness, gang crime, rapes, impoverished inner city neighborhoods, neglected minorities, and many more issues that were extremely touched upon by Tupac.

People still listen to him because his spirit is still alive and strong.

Since I am an avid fan of his musical work, I found it particularly hard to answer this question in a both appropriate and convincing manner. Anyhow, I find this is the best way to answer your question. Quoting from an UrbanDictionary.com 's publisher: Tupac was "a passionate social activist with expressive lyrics who knew how to appeal to people with his revolutionary views. Never showed fear, commanded immense respect from whoever he dealt with, encouraged people to "stop, study your lessons, always do your best" (Me Against The World) and follow their dreams. "
