The throttle position sensor determines the amount of throttle used when the engine is running at various speeds. If the sensor is faulty, it can be replaced by ordering a new part.

may not have been problem. remember you have a camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor but most importantly the timing belt alignment .if it is worn or jumped a tooth will give same problem.Let me know what you have done to determine it is the cam shaft that needed to be replaced ?

I'm not a mechanic / technician but on a 1988 Ford Ranger there might be ( 1 ) oxygen sensor ( upstream sensor )
The 1998 Ford Ranger speed sensor ring can be located on the passenger wheel. The speed sensor ring will be on the inside of the brake rotor.
I just replaced the ABS speed sensor located on the rear differential and fixed the problem. 10$ 10 minutes.
The fuel sensor in the gas tank is bad and needs replaced.
The mixture is electronically controlled by the computer via a throttle position sensor (TPS) tha is mounted somewhere near the carburetor throat. The sensor may be faulty and needs to be replaced.
