it could be a few things. too rich of a gas mixture, bad carburator. those are prolly the most often problems, try changing your gas ratio.

A slight change in the body style is not it. The 2001 bike was a great bike with a 6 speed gearbox and a very useable powerband. The 2002 was a 5 speed that didn't work with the yz 125s power and would bog and acceleration was alot slower. Those are the major changes that make the 2002-2004 yz125s alot worse bike then 96-01 and 05-now.

I have a 2007 Yamaha TTR125L, and i am currently looking for Front forks for my bike also. A YZ125 front fork with triple clamps and all "should" fit all models of the TTR125, im hoping atleast. If your thinking of Re-doing the front end, the YZ125 is the best Choice. "NOTE" you will need a modified rear shock to balance out the setup of the front suspension or the bike will be unstable. YZ85 is to small, and YZ250 is probably to big. To be safe getting the front redone, install a stiffer shock(not just the spring) the whole shock, must be atleast 45% stiffer atleast!! Or take the bike to a shop, and get the rear shock redone, and modified for about $150 tops. Having a soft saggy rear setup with a stiffer MX style front is not safe!!!!
