Why is your 97 5speed Nissan Altima stuck in 2 gear?
If the vehicle is stuck in a gear then the shift censor is out. The other reason could be that the linkage on the transmission is broken.
This was my solution to my 2006 Nissan Altima being stuck in park.... On the gear panel above the "P". Pop the cap off to reveal a cylinod. If you press down on the cylinoid, it will release the gear out of park. What can cause this is liquid being spilled or sprayed accidentally into that area and causing the cylinoid to stick. It will need to be cleaned or replaced, but at least you…
you need to pull the valve cover and oil pan and front cover and then you can replace the upper timing chain on the altima but if you are going to do this job i would recommend you replace the gear that hooks the lower and upper chain together this is called the idler gear and it is the one that causes the noise all the time.
What do you do if your 89 Nissan Sentra clutch pedal quit working and you could not get it in gear but you forced it into reverse and now it is stuck in reverse.?
You will need a small gear puller to do this. They make one that is smaller than a conventional gear puller (for removing crankshaft pulley/dampers) because the clearance behind the damper is a little thin between the pulley and the block. Try NAPA or AutoZone. AutoZone may have them in a blister pack on display.
Should you change gears when driving up a steep hill on an automatic transmission 2001 Nissan Altima?
Your car should adjust to the proper gear it needs when travelling uphill. Usually you need to turn the overdrive off or shift to a lower drive gear when going downhill or towing. That will use the engine to slow the car instead of your brakes. That way they don't overheat to the point of not working.
