Why does your car fail to produce 12 volt constant?

Your car should produce about 14.4 volts from the alternator when the engine is running. If it does not produce anything over 12 volts, your alternator is not charging and you need to get it repaired or replaced.

Your Chevy s10 battery light came on but it gits 12 amps of power is this enough or should you look at replacing alternator?

That's not 12 amps, that's 12 volts, which means the system isn't charging Measure the voltage across the battery terminals,if its charging properly,it will be between 13.8 and 14.7 volts, anything less and its not charging. Suspect then a faulty alternator or wiring problem. and have the battery properly recharged and tested too,a low battery will not give you a correct charging reading and a faulty alternator can take its toll on a battery.

What voltage should your alternator produce?

Charging Voltage RangeOn vehicles with a 12 Volt electrical system the alternator [or generator if so equipped] output voltage is considered acceptable if it is in the range of 13.5 volts to 16 volts.Any voltage below 13.5 volts will not adequately recharge the battery, and anything above 16 volts will tend to cause the battery to overheat, and boil-off the water from the battery.

Why are there 14.5 volt automotive bulbs?

When the alternator on a vehicle is in the charging mode its output is close to 14.5 volts. If a bulb is rated at 12 volts, which is the voltage of a vehicle battery at rest, when the alternator comes on line at a higher voltage the life span of the bulb will be shortened.

What should the output of an automobile alternator be?

Alternator Output Voltage RangeGenerally, an automotive alternator is considered to be "good" if the output voltage is in the range between 12 1/2 volts and a maximum of 16 volts.Anything below 12 1/2 volts probably will not adequately charge the battery, and voltages above 16 volts can "cook" the water out of the electrolyte, and cause damage to the battery.

My '91Mazda 323 dies while driving It starts fine with a boost but dies soon after Help?

Probably need an alternator. Check your battery voltage with a multimeter, without the car running it should be around 12.5 volts with engine off. Start the car & check the battery voltage and if the alternator is charging properly it should be 13.5 or better at the battery. If not check the power terminal at the alternator itself and if only battery voltage (12 or so volts, same as battery) is there then the alternator is not charging.

Is a car 12 volt battery ac or dc?

The CURRENT is actually AC coming Directly from the Alternator. A voltage regulator/converter then takes it to DC. For all practical purposes, a typical automobile operates on 12Vdc. The Alternator actutally puts out about 14 Volts to allow for constant charging of the battery.

How do you know when an alternator go out in a 99 ford crown vic?

By " go out " do you mean not charging? If this is the question, and you don't have any tools, find a small volt meter for 12 volt d/c and connect to the the battery. Should read 14.something volts. If not, and is say 12.2 volts or below 13 volts, then change the alt. But of course, if the lites are dim, and the battery is dead or very low, that might be a sign.

What could cause over-dimming of interior at night on a 2001 Monte Carlo?

Sounds as if the alternator is going out. Have it tested if it is charging on the bench at 12 and a half and below replace

What is wrong with a car if the lights go up and down?

If your car lights are getting brighter and dimmer its probably do to inconsistent charging from your alternator or your alternator is insufficiently charging. To test this start your vehicle and test the voltage across your battery terminals ( pos test lead to pos battery terminal ) it should be approximately 14 volts if your vehicle is a 12 volt system.

How many volts does a 12 volt 100 amp alternator produce?

This will still only produce 12 volts. It will produce 1200 watts. watts is the result of Volts times Amps.
