These engines are not reckoned to be "thirsty".Suggest you get it checked out to see if it is wasting fuel through perhaps a faulty injector or choked air filter.Maybe a dragging brake?A session on a vauxhall dealer's diagnostic computer could be advantageous. If no fault can be found,it will probably be a right foot problem.

Should you buy a vauxhall Astra or a corsa I have about 4000 tp 4700 to spend and do a lot of motorway driving?

The Astra will be much better as you will mostly drive on the motorway however it will cost more as the lowest amount of litre for a Astra is 1.4 and a corsa is 1.0 but a Astra will have more expensive insurance and road tax and petrol however the Astra is a very reliable and strong built car but I will advise you to buy a Audi a3 or either a vw golf new model.

All Vauxhall 2.2 petrol engines in Astra and Zafira have a chain. The Sintra and the Omega are belt driven as they were fitted with what was in effect a bored out version of the X20XEV which was belt driven.
