The short answer is that he is sick, or he is dying. Those are really the only two causes for a listless Betta. They are normally very active fish. My betta is very, very active. Though she sometimes rests for a few seconds and then swims around once I move. How long does your fish do this for? I can tell my fish is just resting because she is always breathing. Maybe it would help if you checked whether your fish was breathing. Maybe its just doing the same thing as mine but for a little longer. EDIT by Natalie01 to her paragraph: My betta just died recently, and before she did she was staying still for a long time near her plant. She had foggy eyes as a result of a broken fin (My maid had an accident with her when she cleaned her for the first time) and she died peacefully after a super fast round of her bowl. How are your bettas eyes, and are there any other problems? Send me a message when you have an answer. R.I.P Rosy 0000(No idea when)-2008
If they are dead then they are should be floating at the top. They could be breathing ,they breath at the top of the water, or just resting betas always seem to be not moving but it could be a number of things.
I've never had a betta float after it has died. Check the gills for movement.
If he is alive, then he is either very very cold, or cramped in a tiny little bowl, very very sick, OR he could be sleeping. Bettas do that too you know.
Bettas are by nature a slow moving fish that likes to just hover in one place most of the time. They are not an active fish.
Go to "What happens when your betta fish doesn't eat"
skip its health and change the water now
It is obviously dead.
A betta can swim wherever he wants and stay there. Do you mean he can't stay off the bottom? Does he keep sinking? Mine are doing this. It's a symptom of a handful of betta diseases
Yes a Betta can go to the bottom of a tank and stay there for quite some considerable time. The length of time the fish would be capable of remaining before surfacing and taking a breath of air would vary depending on various factors including temperature of the water.
it depends i have a male with a female betta, in a 2.5 gallon tank, they get along, i wouldnt risk it, no
I would definitely not do this. The chemicals from the paint can be extremely toxic to the fish and can possibly be fatal. If you want your betta to stay healthy, do not use paint in their tank!
no because male betta's are really aggressive to other betta's which plakats are male's. but female betta's can stay with other females. don't try to, one of your betta's are going to end up dead.
It's best to only put male and female betta fish in the same tank/bowl if you are breeding them. If they are not breeding and they still stay in the same area, the male would most likely attack the female, so keep the female away! Also, if you are breeding betta fish, make sure to remove the female betta after she lays her eggs, as the male will care for them and chase the female away.
The male will try to spawn with her. If she is not in breeding condition she needs to hide to stay alive.
The King of France let them stay there and everyone would not let them stay anywhere else. Still they had to live by all the swamps were nobody wanted to live at least they had a place to stay.
Could be water quality, temperature, or he could just be constipated. Could be close to death, you can still save him/her though. good luck!
cannot stay still in one place for long
No. all fish need fins to swim. Or they would just stay at the bottom of the tank and die.
do not do this but it can stay in the wild without food for a week
