This sort of behaviour in cats is usually a result of worms. Let's face it - cat's tongues go in some pretty dirty places, simply because they do like to clean themselves. They can easily pick up worms from the dirt they try to clean off their bodies with their tongues, because worms can be harboured in the ground, and these worms are transferred to the cat's body with the dirt, which is then transferred to the cat's intestine when it cleans itself.

Worms give cats an itchy butt. Dragging themselves across the ground is often the only way they can relieve the itchiness. If your cat is doin this, get an all-round cat worming solution from the vet. Don't get an off-the-shelf wormer at the supermarket, because these often miss certain worms.

I had this happen with my female cats and she had worms (makes their butts itch) so i got tablets from the vets and problem solved! However this my not be the problem your cat has so my advice is take him to the vets if he keeps doing it!
