The 1996 Ford Explorer overdrive sensor can be found on the right hand side of the transmission. The overdrive sensor will be near the front of the transmission.

The overdrive is "ON" when the light is "OFF". Notice the light for the overdrive has a slash through it.

On the of the shift arm. On the end of the shift arm.

On a 1996 Ford Explorer : Overdrive is the normally allowed position It won't shift into overdrive until the speed is greater anyway ( such as on the highway or freeway , my 1995 Explorer XLT doesn't shift into overdrive until I'm going 50 MPH / 80 KPH ) If you are towing something , or if you are driving in hilly country where the transmission is constantly shifting back and forth from overdrive to drive , then you want to shut the overdrive off using the transmission control switch on the end of your gear selector leaver ( P R N etcetera ) and the O/D OFF light will light up in your dash

On the end of the gear selector lever ( P R N etc. )

A blinking engine light could mean several things. The only way to know for sure is to have the Jimmy checked out by a licensed mechanic.

My 1995 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter will shift into overdrive at 50 MPH ( I don't know if that has anything to do with having 3.73 gears with my trailer towing package )

A flashing OD light means there is a problem with your transmission. Your truck should continue to operate, but without overdrive capability, have it checked out at a shop. Your Mazda Pickup is almost identical to the Ford Ranger and thus should have a Ford transmission, when there is a problem with the transmission the OD light with either come on or Flash and sometimes the Check Engine light with come on too depending on what is wrong with the tranny.

The daytime running light module on a 1996 Ford Explorer can be found behind the bumper. It is on the driver's side of the car.

where is the head light timer on 96 ford explorer

My 1998 explorer 5.0 did the same thing, i noticed the light flashing, then noticed that it hadnt shifted into overdrive. so i pressed the overdrive button *located on the end of shifter* it then shifted into overdrive and the light shut off. This happens easily, the button is very sensitive, the slightest touch even from shifting from Park to Drive can activate it. The button is for towing or hauling so you will substain torque and speed. hope this helps, write back if you still need help.

what will fix the overdrive light from flashing in a 1996 mercury grand marquis its a gear ratio problem between 1 and 2 shift

hi I am working on a nissan maxima 1996, I put a transmission in and it's not starting, the antitheft light is blinking very fast.

Possible slipping drive belt or more likely the alternator is on the way out

No, the 1994 has a hydraulic governor and the 1996 has an electronic governor.

As far as I know the keypad has to be changed ( my 1995 Ford Explorer XLT keypad doesn't light up anymore , also )

Tom here, my 1996 jimmy 4 4wheel drive has no 2nd, reverse or overdrive?

Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem

In almost every case of this occurrence, this is your tracker telling you it needs a transmission overhaul.

On the upper dash right of the steering wheel next to the overdrive (OD) switch

On a 1996 Ford Explorer : ( r134a )
