There's a lot of pros and cons on both sides of the argument for going straight into college after high school.

One huge disadvantage would be that many people feel that right after high school is the perfect time to travel freely and explore the world, and going straight into post-secondary robs them of this chance.

The idea that people don't want to go into university until they're sure of what career they want to pursue, and aren't sure without some time away from academics, is also a disadvantage to going straight to college.

Taking some time off gives the opportunity to work full-time and store up funds to pay for future schooling. The disadvantage then to going straight to college is the possibilities of a lot of loans and a tight budget to make ends meet.

And then of course, there's the simple fact that after 13 years of formal schooling, a lot of people are just ready for a break that you don't get if you go straight to college.

Of course, these disadvantages can be countered with advantages - a college away from home gives as much independence as traveling, and going right into university can give a bit of a head start for whatever education and career path you want to take. It's all about what's best for you.

As long as the institution has a regional accreditation, either is fine. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. Below are listed the regional accrediting agencies and their geographical areas of responsibility. When choosing a school, make sure it has an accreditation from one of the below.

Regional Accreditation Agencies

· Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools - Educational institutions in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, as well as schools for American children in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

How do you join the major league baseball without going to college?

MLB teams draft players out of high school as they do out of college. 15 of the top 30 selections in the 2010 draft were high school students and not college students. If one is fortunate enough to be drafted by an MLB team straight out of high school, they can elect to go to one of the drafting team's minor league rookie teams to begin their career and bypass college altogether.
