Color is able to absorb different types of light based on its color. Whatever the color is that is perceived by the eye, all the colors are absorbed. Thus, the light that is not able to be absorbed is bounced back towards the eye.

Quite simply, the color of an object is determined by the wavelengths of light that it reflects. After all, it is the reflected light we see, and if something, say, absorbs all colors of white light except green light, we see that object or thing as green. Objects that reflect some yellows and some reds will appear orange. A white object reflects all colors of white light, and a black object absorbs all the colors of white light. Think this through and it will make sense.

Nothing has "color". Color is a mental code for describing various frequencies of visible light. We think things are "colored" because objects reflect different parts of white light.
