∙ 13y agoRefugees come to New Zealand for various reasons. Being a refugee in a refugee camp is not a whole lot of fun. They are there because they have been forced by circumstance to leave their natal country, but do not have a particular country to go to. Sometimes they spend years in a refugee camp! New Zealand is one of many countries that have agreed to UN treaties to accept refugees. provided we think they have a real chance of fitting in.
On coming to NZ, a refugee will meet with a lot of changes necessary to fit into NZ. Language, personal naming systems, culture in general, religion, climate change, schooling, commerce and so on.

In New Zealand, people have political freedom to vote as they wish; they are not suppressed for having an opinion or political preference; they have religious freedom to worship as they wish, and are not, on the whole, persecuted for their faith (although as in any country, a few extremists exist). New Zealand is also a country with a high standard of living, clean cities and spectacular scenery.
