* Because Christians are commissioned to to spread the Gospel of Jesus to all the world (Matthew 28:19) They are commanded to spread the good news of Jesus being our savior and then the more people we tell that believe, the more that come to a faith in God and can spend an eternity in heaven someday.

* The spread of Christianity has been tightly connected with the expansion of many empires, notably the British, French and Spanish, and with many worldwide events (the Crusades, the large numbers of controversies involving revolutionary scientists); as such it is an integral part of Western history. In terms of the religion itself, spreading Christianity is an important way of gaining more adherents and increasing its influence.

Religious beliefs are fundamental to the identity of some people. The need to believe that their worldview is the true one becomes so strong that they can even feel affronted that otherwise intelligent and rational people do not share their beliefs. The answer is to convert those people to their religion - in this case, Christianity - thus having everyone else in full agreement with their worldview.
