Because by the time you reach middle school you are expected to be able to stick with study for a whole school day. Younger children have shorter attention spans.
I can't answer the question because I am trying to bring recess back to my daughter's middle school. Recess isn't just for playing. Its for getting a drink or a snack, using the bathroom or to just destress until the next class. Our high school has a 20 min. brunch between 2 and 3rd period as does the elementary school. So why do the middle school kids suffer when no one else does?

∙ 13y agoyou can you just arent at a park .since u are older they expect you to act more mature than u were in elementry school .its kind of funner than playing at a park cuz u can go where ever you want.right?

They shouldnt have recess because, School budgets are tight, but recess requires monitoring and equipment. For many schools, poor equipment or lack of school employees makes optional programs like recess impossible. Schools that struggle to pay for books and classroom materials or are faced with deteriorating buildings could fare better without the push to provide recess when they can barely provide an effective education. Playgrounds, fields, gymnasiums, games, sports equipment, and recess monitors all cost money that many schools just don't have. Recess takes up valuable instructional time.
The time spent lining up, walking outside, gathering the kids from the playground, taking them to the restroom, and going back into the classroom, wastes around 30-40 minutes.
Bullying can thrive on playgrounds. And you may say this can be solved with adult supervision and "time out" zones but this doesnt always work and it may continue and you can't always solve an issue like that.
