I have 1992 LAndcruiser and have same problem. I have been trouble shooting on and off for months now, I suspect a fault ground, does your Volt Meter fluctuate when you use the flashers? I have noticed unstable voltage readings...
turn key to on without cranking the engine then press the trip meter lever for a few seconds until the meter reads zero

there is a short in the wiring beyong the engine fuse this could be depending on vehicle your wiring to your windshield wipers, ignition switch, defogger, over drive switch combo meter or power steering on 1986 Toyota
To reset the oil change light on a Toyota Highlander 2012, switch the engine to the OFF position. Then switch the engine back on while pressing the trip meter reset button until it displays 000000 or says COMPLETE.
Not sure if the 97 has a cabin sensor or if this was what you were looking for. Yet the one for the engine is in the air flow meter at the air filter.

What is the reading direct from the battery with a volt meter when this happens. It should be over 12 volts.Engine at idle, in drive, with the normal load, yes, will have reduced volts until the engine turns faster.
Well my corolla need a new flow meter, new transmission oil and a belt tensioner, not sure which one fixed it though
open the meter, buy a new bulb , put it in holder , refix
