Probably the blowere relay, may be the switch or the blower motor however. This is a bad resistor, very common problem on Malibus. It's located under the dashboard, behind the glove box. Here's a site from another forum with the specific directions: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=175159 I had the same problem with mine. I went to a junkyard, and bought a used part to fix it. The part behind the dash that you use to change the speeds of the blower is what needs changed. It is actually very easy, and about $30. It is worth doing, I was done before I left the junkyard (I wanted to make sure theirs worked).
the blower resistor controls the fan speeds
if all speeds do not work id say is a fuse, but if you just dropped one or two speeds. replace the blower motor resister. sells for $60.00 at the dealer.
The blower motor speed resister is burned out.
Blower wont work on all 5 speeds, usually the lower speeds tend to go first.
usually the blower motor resistor pkg. located on or near the blower motor
Your blower switch sensor is out. Replace it!Then all the speeds will work
Normally when some speeds work and others don't, the problem is a bad, Blower Motor Resistor Pack. You will find it somewhere near the blower motor.
If the blower works on slower speeds only I would suspect the high speed blower motor relay (under the hood in the power distribution box) or the switch itself. The blower speed resistor is working if all the slower speeds work.
change the blower motor resistor . this controls the speeds . thanks paul
Probably the blower motor speed resistor is partially burned out.
If the blower motor randomly and intermittenly quits and does not work, chances are good the blower motor itself is faulty, if the blower motor does not work on all fan speeds from low through high, it most likely needs a blower motor resistor.
If all speeds do not work, suspect the fuse, the switch, the switch connector or the blower motor. If only high speed works, suspect the blower motor speed resistor. If low speeds work and not high, suspect the blower motor relay.
the blower motor resistor is broken, get a replacement.
If you have no blower speeds at all check the fuse, then check the blower motor switch and electrical plug for a melt down situation, then check the blower motor itself.
The blower motor resistor is defective. They go bad when the blower motor pulls to much amperage.
If it works on some speeds and not others, the most likely problem is a defective Blower Motor Resistor Pack. It is located near the blower motor.
When the fan is on high it does not run through the blower motor resistor. The low speeds don't work because the blower motor resistor is bad.
Because its broken
you need a new rheostat !
replace the resistor pack on the fanblower, under glowecompartment
Just had the same problem. First my blower motor would onlywork on "high", and then it started to change speeds and shut off by itself. Replace the resistor mounted in front of the blower motor. It costs about 40.00 at a dealer.
a bad blower motor resistor heat normally used on medium and high medium usually burns out those speeds first till only high is left normally located right back under glove box on heater box/core line usually 20-40$
heat works in back not in front front blows hot for a few mins then cold
The common cause is a failed blower resistor.
