I believe that if you use mono-torque gaskets you do not need to re-torque ( hence the name) mono meaning one.The issue with white "smoke" is not oil but coolant as oil will be blueish it could also be just condensation (water in the exhaust) that will happen in colder climates, also if the engine produced white smoke from coolant before and after the head gasket replacement you may have a cracked head. you always have to torque a new head gasket. if you don't they won't seal. a head gasket is what some people call a crush gasket. they have metal seals, usually aluminum or copper, that is crushed when you torque them. when the metal is crushed it fills in any small imperfections there are from when they were made. they also can't be re-used. if you take the head off get a new gasket and torque it. if your head gasket leaks it will let antifreeze into the cylinder. when the cylinder fires it burns the antifreeze and makes white smoke.
