∙ 7y agoObama was sworn for this first term on Jan. 20, 2009. He was privately sworn in on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 and again in a public ceremony on Jan. 21, 2013. When Jan. 20 falls on Sunday, the president takes the oath in a private ceremony on that day and repeats the oath in the public ceremony the next day.

∙ 7y agoIn 2009, when John Roberts (the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court) administered the oath of office, he accidentally said it wrong. Just to make sure the oath was legal and correct, he asked the new president to take the oath a second time-- and this time, it was delivered correctly.
