The main reason why Charles Darwin's theory of evolution was not accepted was because it was totally new. People never thought that animals branched down from older species. During his time, people thought that the reason why animals or other species existed was because it was god will. Other people believed in spontaneous birth. This was a belief that living things could be born from nothing.

Also, most people were Christian, and Darwin was threatening the validity of The Bible. It would have been mad for people back then, the fact that they always relied on the Bible as fact, and suddenly there was other ideas to consider

Peoples religious views collided with his theory of evolution, they were true to god and did not want to accept this idea of natural selection and mutation throughout the animal kingdom. Also people were thinking of lamarks answers rather than Darwins, this idea of genetical modification was too new and complicated.

Darwin's theory of evolution was accepted. Today most of the world's scientists recognize this theory as the foundation of the biological sciences. Darwin's theory was accepted by scientists from the day it was first published, back in the late 1850s. It has receieved opposition from non science groups because it conflicts with certain dogmatic religious beliefs. But until a superior theory supercedes it, Darwin's theory will continue to form the foundation of Biology. That is unlikely to happen. Darwin's theory has been extended, and only slightly modified since its original publication.

It was accepted. Very broadly too. There were only a few scientists who had serious objections to his hypotheses when he first published them. The great majority of the scientific community at the time was very enthusiastic about his explanations.

Like most theories, it was introduced when the majority of those in the scientific world were still Christian. Since it contrasted with the Bible's story of creation, most believed it was impossible and a heresy.

in 1850 most of the population were strictly christian and so his theory opposed the christian belief that all life was created by God. this means that hardly anyone believed him. Darwin's theory seems to have become more contentious among certain fundamentalist groups over time.

Many late 19th century learned men of science, on the other hand, particularly naturalists, were convinced Darwin had hit upon an excellent explanation for the diversity of life, and were in general agreement with the theory.

At the time that Darwin thought of his theory and publicized it, most of Europe was Christian and believed in literal translation of the Bible, which Darwin's theory of evolution opposed.
