Richard M. Nixon's VP was Spiro T. Agnew. When the VP was caught in a scandal in his home state of Maryland, he resigned, pleading no contest to the allegations. President Nixon chose House Minority leader Gerald Ford as his replacement. Ford was overwhelmingly confirmed by the House then the Senate and became vice-president. He was the first to be selected under the newly adopted 25th Amendment.
