he made several "eurika" moments about how the earth spins and light(especially white light and its properties), formed from the works of galileo, who died shortly before newtons birth. he also made several predictions, one being that the earth would not stop until after 2064 at the earliest.

Newton did fail, but I'm not sure where he failed. He seems to have shown little promise in academic work. His school reports described him as 'idle' and 'inattentive'.
