She wanted off of the show it was her choice. Sasha Alexander wanted off the show to live her life and have a family but she couldn't cause she always had to work She found the scripts hard to learn and found filming for 10 months of the year very difficult. Also, she didn't realise how popular the show would be, or even that it would last longer than the first season

∙ 14y agoKate was written out at her own request, provided her personal matters conflicted with the fact that acting on the show was very demanding, and she was soon-to-be married. You can put the picture together, lots of stress.

Whether it was her decision/choice to get killed off or not hasn't been made clear.
