It didn't catch on right away, at first it wasn't even named "Lord of the Flies" it was called " The stranger that lies within". Then the author though of changing the name to "Lord of the Flies". Although it still didn't become an instant success, years later it became successful.

Apparently, the movie was banned from public schools because it was too gory.

that's true but it was also banned because it talks about young kids raping each other and them murdering each other. and it also shows how they turn into savages and do the things to each other that i just mentioned.

The book has many biblical parallels. Simpn is paralleled to Jesus, The Lord of the Flies is paralled to Satan, and the island is paralled to the Garden of Evil. This caused many public schools to ban the book.
