Sacagawea was important because she helped Lewis and Clark in their expedition to explore near the land of the Mississipi river and the land of the Lousianna purchase after the U.S claimed it. Even Lewis and Clark said that they wouldn't have survived without Sacagawea.

Because she had language and geography skills essential to the Lewis and Clark expedition and was able to negotiate with her brother, Chief Cameahwait for the horses needed to proceed West. Her very presence
as a member of the party was an indication to tribes in area that they went through that the Americans had no hostile intentions.

Really? Check you're history book, buddy. Sacajawea led Louis and Clark across some sort of river, of which i have no knowing of the name.

Sacajawea led Louis and clark through the "new world". She was an expert at tracking (and she did this with a baby) and basically kept them safe and took them to where they wanted to go.

Fun fact: Sacajawea was actually kidnapped by another tribe when she was younger. While on their expedition she ran into her brother who was chief of her formal tribe.

Sacajawea played a very important role in the expedition. Not only was her knowledge of wildlife and wild foods helpful, but her presence in itself was very, very important. A woman with a baby never accompanies a war party, so other Indian (Native American) tribes knew their intentions were peaceful. (Sacajawea gave birth to a baby christened Jean Charbonneau.) Sacajawea also helped find the way to her tribe, the Shoshones, from which she was kidnapped at an earlier time by the Hidatsas. All in all, without Sacajawea, the people of the Lewis and Clark expedition would have struggled to find a route to the Pacific Ocean.
