Shakespeare wrote more than thirty plays, a dozen of which are considered among the best ever written. He wrote in every genre except political satire, successfully; whereas most successful playwrights specialized in only one genre. Of his over a hundred and fifty sonnets, many are considered among the best written in the English language. He owned shares in the most successful acting company of his day, and in the two playhouses in which they regularly performed. He owned real estate in his hometown of Stratford, and bought the second largest house in town. He held the lease on a suite of apartments in the same complex that housed his company's playhouse in Blackfriars. He died rich, famous, well-liked, and respected.
