People worship for many reasons. Usually it's for the following reasons:

Tradition (ex: "I was raised this way.")

History of effectiveness (ex: "I worshiped in this manner and associated a subsequent occurrence as a sign of the god's power")

Introduction of the religion by contact with an outside culture (ex: "I learned this from people who have brought these gods with them.")

Zeus is no different. It is commonly considered that the worship of Zeus came to Greece from a people referred to as the Indo-Europeans.

Zeus wasn't but Jupiter was in Roman mythology they had almost the same gods but more aggressive and different names. :)
