Anne Frank is important precisely because she (and her diart) put a face on the Holocaust. Not only a human face but the face of a 'girl' - it not only showed the willingness of the local population to resist German occupation, it also demonstrated the complicity of other sections of the local population with the German occupation. In the end it was not a random search that found Anne Frank's hiding place, it was a worker who noted the radio station had changed who became suspicious and reported this to the Germans.

Anne Frank is such an important historical figure because of the fact that her diary was found. It was an amazing piece of literature (in one sense) so they published it. Her diary describes the time just before the Holocaust and during it. Read Anne Frank's diary, the book, and you may understand. She isn't an important figure because she *did something amazing*, but rather because she *left an amazing diary/record of her experiences during the Holocaust behind*.

Where did the Franks die?

Edith, Margot and Anne all died in the concentration camp, Auschwitz whereas Otto lived and published Anne's diary to the world, to make her dream of becoming an author come true. This is why the diary of Anne Frank is so popular because Anne's story is so heart touching and believable. Her story tells something to all the Jews that it doesn't matter what religion you are, because you all are the same thing and that you will all suffer the same problems at the same time. This story is something in which many people will learn from and you can all see that the Germans treated Jews and British people wrongly just because they believed different things.
