The battle of Okiawa lead to America bombing Hiroshima which would lead to the surrender of Japan and Allies winning.
I believe it was the Battle of Okinawa, which was on the island of Okinawa(SW of Japan) This is of course not including the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Okinawa, at least I think so....
The battle of Okinawa needed to occur because Okinawa was the closest and biggest islans to mainland Japan. The US wanted to use it as an airfield from where they could carry out bombing raids on Japans major cities.
Okinawa was supposed to become a spring board for the invasion of the main islands. Capture of the island allowed an assembly of invasion materials, like ships, planes, ammo and other supplies, in short distance (350 miles) of southern Japan, the island of Kyushu. As a side benefit it became possible for lighter aircraft than long-range B-29s to harrass Japanese war industrial facilities. Also, airfields on Okinawa were probably better than those on Iwojima.
They were regarded as the home islands and were closer to mainland Japan and this would give Japan's enemies an easier and shorter means of attacking Japan by aerial bombing .
It's airfield was needed.
there was an airfield on Okinawa. Possession of the airfield gave US aircraft a safe landing area in the event of aircraft damage incurred over Japan during bombing runs
Primarily for the airstrips. Excellent location to refuel and stage bombing runs.
The bombing of Hiroshima was important because it brought the second world war to an end.

The bombing of Fort McHenry was important because it inspired Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner.
The Battle of Okinawa was important because the Okinawa island was a part of Japan so a victory there would me a part of Japan had been captured. Also the battle served as a lesson on how difficult invading Japan could be.
It allowed the American airforce to reach further into Japan.

Okinawa and Iwo Jima were important in defeating Japan because it gave the allied forces an emergency landing strip for crippled air crafts. It also allowed for sea and air blockades.
