I have a wood stove and have burned cedar in it for years, it is completely safe. Recently alot of cedar trees have died on my property so I have had an abundance of the wood. It burns alot faster than oak so i mix the two for a longer lasting fire. Enjoy

The Burl Wood may be 'better' as a material to sculpt, but the master may know that cedar objects sell well, and is reluctant to try a new material. So it may be up to you to convince him that Burl Wood objects will sell well.

Cedar will do good, cedar is very sturdy and if polished should hold up just fine. Just be sure to wax it so that the base of the wood will be protected.

Sure can. Tends to burn hot, and pretty fast. Would suggest burning cedar as a mix with other woods for best results. In an open fireplace, it will crackle and pop alot. So care needs to be taken. As always, make sure its good and dry. Good starter wood.
