During the 1st Jihad in the 8Th and 9Th centuries, Muslin armies overran most of the Mideast. including Jerusalem.

The Crusades were launched to drive them out of the Christian Holy City of Jerusalem and other surrounding areas.

Soldiers joined the Crusades because they wanted to fight. The Church didn't want them fighting for land so they told the soldiers to fight for the Church and in doing so, they would be guaranteed a place in heaven. Some also did it for the fame and fortune.

Wel 3 religions christains muslims and jews were fighting over jerusalem and they all waned it so.. it became a big ordeal, and crusades formed
