These bombings were not the most significant part of World War Two. However they were certainly spectacular & stunning events that lead directly to the Japanese decision to surrender unconditionally in August 1945, and avoid the looming Allied invasion of the Japanese Home Islands that would have resulted in millions of casualties and massive destruction.
