The battle at Lexington was known as "The shot heard round' the world." Mostly because it was the first shot that started the Rev. War, fired by Britain because the soldier thought he heard a gun shot. Concord was an attempt to attack the British and stop them, because they were marching toward Boston to take their ammunition and guns.

Lexington and Concord was one little skirmish between the colonial men and 600 British troops. The event took place in April of 1775, but it will be another year before the war was really on after the Battle of Bunker Hill. The reason we know about Lexington and Concord is from a poem by Longfellow in 1861 on the eve of the civil war. He wanted Americans to remember their history.
