The colony of Jamestown was settled by the London Company and sent colonists out to the new land in the 1600's to gain wealth for their company. The company hoped to sell Virginia crops such as tobacco. Problems with the Native Americans hampered the colonists efforts to expand. Finall the British government helped to settle things down.
