Why was the Korean war such a frustrating experience for Americans?

The Korean War was fought during the Cold War era from 1950 to 1953. It was frustrating for American because they did not achieve a complete victory as in previous wars, such as WW1 and WWII. The war was ended through an armistice that established the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
