Pennsylvania is know sometimes known as 'The Quaker State' for its religious beginnings with the Quaker movement. William Penn - a Quaker himself - wrote the constitution for Pennsylvania which was accepted into legislature in 1693. It was called Pennsylvania, meaning "Penn's Woods", in honor of Admiral Penn.

It was named by King Charles II.
