Through trade (intentionally and accidentally) many species were carried across the Atlantic Ocean. Some of the old world species have naturalized in North America. Pigeons, Lesser Trefoil (a type of clover), Horses, Wheat, Rice, Wild Boars, and Queen Anne's Lace are just a few examples. Potatoes were introduced to Europe from North America and quickly became a staple crop. If one were to make a catalog of all inter-continental movement of plants and animals it would be a very long list.

The physical isolation between the eastern and western hemispheres, plants and animals had developed in very different ways. As a result, before contact with the americans Europeans had never known foods like potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, or turkeys. People in the Americans had not known coffee, Oranges, rice, wheat, sheep, or cattle
