The Egyptians had many advantages that the Mesopotamians did not have. For example, the Nile River flooded annually so their schedules revolved around that, while the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers flooded at random. Also the deserts surrounding Egypt were much harder to cross than the ones surrounding Mesopotamia, making Egypt relatively sheltered from invasions, whereas Mesopotamia was often subjected to foreign invaders.
