The Scottsboro boys were nine African American men charged with the rape of two white women on a train in Scottsboro, Alabama in 1931. For some reason, the police persuaded the women to say they had been raped and the young men were convicted on their testimony. Subsequently, one of the "victims" came forward, admitted she hadn't been raped, and helped to get them acquitted of the charges. .

  1. The Scottsboro Boys were nine black teenage boys [falsely] accused of rape in Alabama in [1931 on a train]. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottsboro_Boys) Ruby Bates and Victoria Price said that they were raped by the boys.
  2. At 5:45 am, the boys were brought to court by 118Alabama guardsmen.
  3. The all-white jury delivered guilty verdicts. These verdicts wanted the death penalty imposed on the accused (the Scottsboro Boys). The boys, however, served long prison sentences instead.
  4. A fight broke out between a white group and a black group. The white group was kicked off the train. Later, two stops ahead, the police arrested the black group (also known as the Scottsboro Boys).
  5. The NAACP and the International Labor Defense helped the Scottsboro Boys, their parents. The two organizations also sought to represent the young men in an appeal and they also helped raise money for their defense.
  6. A letter from Ruby Bates to a boyfriend is found. The letter states that had not been raped. This meant that she falsely testified in court.
  7. This court case reached the Supreme Court of the United States. Surprisingly, the Supreme Court finds the exclusion of blacks on jury and turns the case over to a lower court.
  8. Eight of the defendants, not the Scottsboro Boys, were tried and sentenced to death by electrocution.
  9. Clarence Norris, one of the Scottsboro Boys, wrote a book describing the trial.
  10. I did some of your work. Seriously, go find something on your own.
