the patriots vs the loyalists started because the revolutionary war was about to start, and was inevitable. This resulted in a split in the people, patriots wanting to secede from England, and the loyalists wanting America to stay with England

because the loyalists were british, and patriots were Americans, and they were divided because of what they believed in. they went to war (American revolution) and the patriots won. July the 4th.

Not exactly. They were all Americans, but subjects of the British. The Loyalists favored remaining loyal to the Crown, while the Patriots wanted autonomy from the British Empire. They declared their independence, as history records, on July 4, 1776, but they did not win the American Revolution (with a lot of help from France) until 1783.

Some were loyalist because they were sided with the British. Some were Patriots because they were sided with the rebels. Patriots wanted freedom.
