It was the alliance system that held Europe together and to keep war from breaking out. Unfortunately, if war did break out, there would be no stopping it from spreading it to those nations that are in an Alliance system.

Austro Hungarian Empire declares war on Serbia

Russia Mobilizes

Germany declares war on Serbia

Germany declares war on The Russian Empire

Germany declares war on France

Austro Hungarian Empire declares war on Russia

Austro Hungarian Empire declares war on France

Germany declares war on Belgium

Austro Hungarian Empire declares war on Belgium

Great Britain declares war on Germany

Great Britain declares war on Austro Hungarian Empire

Italy declares war on Germany

Italy declares war on Austro Hungarian Empire

Ottoman Empire declares war on Russia

Ottoman Empire declares war on France

Ottoman Empire declares war on Great Britain

Ottoman Empire declares war on Italy

Bulgaria declares war on Russia

Bulgaria declares war on France

Bulgaria declares war on Great Britain

United States declares war on: Germany, Austro Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.

Greece enters war against Germany, Austro Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.

So you can see just how complicated it got very quickly.

yes the repetition is necessary!
