The wires to the ignition switch are broken. Ignition switch should be replaced or VATS system can be by-passed.Check with car alarm installers. This is cheaper than replacing switch, but you will lose anti theft system. It is possible that the resistor in the key itself has been damaged. A dealer would be able to make you a new key. Make sure you have your VIN number in case they need to contact GM to get the key codes. hello i had a buick tech fix it at the bottom of the steering column 40 dollars instead of 400 for keys and ignition

When the security light is on you can not start the car. It is a security feature that is designed to prevent a car thief to fail at stealing the car. Ensure the ignition key is clean, then make sure the black chip in the key is centered in key, ensure metal contacts on black chip are clean. Try starting car after security light goes out. A failed attempt will cause the security light to stay on for a few minutes, do not attempt to start car until security light goes out.

beCause you have activated the security anti theft deterent that keeps people from stealing your Oldsmobile or Buick that's why you have a chip on your key and that's why the car makes a dinging noise when the ignition is switched into the on position. beCause you have activated the security anti theft deterent that keeps people from stealing your Oldsmobile or Buick that's why you have a chip on your key and that's why the car makes a dinging noise when the ignition is switched into the on position.

When the security light is on the starter will not engage. You must wait a few minutes for the light to turn off before attempting to start car again, this is to help prevent theft. Ensure the contacts on the black chip on the key are clean and that the chip is centered in the key.

Usually in the ign lock cylinder if you have the VATs type key with the resistor in the key. The wires attached to the key lock cylinder often break. If you have the "pass key" type without the little resistor chip then it is different. But it also usually involves removing the key lock cylinder.

Possible a bad computer chip on your car igition key or you may have to get a mechanic to reset the sequrity code for you. Try a different ignition key before you do anything else. The chip is that little black thing that's on the side of your key. I had a mechanic bypass my security in the ignition.

Make sure the contact points on the little black chip in key are clean and ensure the chip is centered in the key. If security light goes on you must wait a few minutes for it to go off before attempting to start car again.

I found that a wire to the ignition switch was broken where you put your key in . this did not let the chip be read . and the security kept flashing.and car would not even start. after repairing the wires it started up perfect. hope this helps

That vehicle does not have an immobilizer, ensure chip contacts are clean and also ensure chip is in center of key before inserting into ignition. "SECURITY" light should not appear if you do it properly. (If you are trying to steal the car you need to get a life!)

User Avatar

That little black chip with the metal contact point in your key has to be in center of key and the contact points should be clean. If security light goes on and car doesn't start don't keep trying to start it, wait about 3 minutes for security light to turn off, and clean the contact points on the chip in the key and you should make sure it is not shifting to one side of the key.

The chip in the passport is the RFID chip. This is a security chip where the identification and information of the holder is also stored. Border patrols and immigration may scan this to a passport scanner to know that the passport is valid and legal.
