My understanding is that when you plug your headphones into the computer and try to play a song on iTunes, the sound does not work. The first fix to try is to make sure the headphones actually connect into the computer and work. Some headphones do not work with some ports in the computer for headphones. The second possible fix is to make sure you are plugging it into a headphone slot and not a video slot. These two slots are commonly mixed up.
If this is occurring while the iPod has been on, it is because you did not pause or stop the music. Since most iPods do not have built-in speakers, when you take the earphones out, you do not hear anything.
If you turned on your iPod without playing any music and then you plug in the earphones and music is playing, then there may be a setting on the iPod that whenever the earphones are plugged in music starts to play.
Probably because you swung them around or got them wet. You can go to apple. It may cost you more for them to look at them than to just buy new headphones. It even might be your ipods headphone jack. Try to blow in it and see if it works. Just try someone elses headphones and if those dont work than it is your ipod):
There isn't any output of the sound to go anywhere, which is totally useless
and wastes energy, so the iPod goes into a save-power mode or a pause.
Side Note:
That is almost like asking:
"How come I can't play my XBOX if there is no TV?"
I don't know why it's not working, but that happened to my friend, so we called apple, and I think the only thing you can do is get a new iPod.
Try calling apple

well i am not sure, but i think it is all about how the eletronics are assembled inside, and also the iPod doesnt have a speaker anywhere so if it did then we wouldn't here a thing! :)
It means your headphones have gone bad
Only 3rd generation and newer iPod touches have the speakers.
A headphone jack allows a music device to be heard privately by using a headphone or ear buds in the place of the audible speaker. Your headphones must have a plug that fits the device's jack (port).
Categories of output include are a speaker, headphone, printer, radio or a television. It generally shows graphics, text, music and video electronically.
If the speakers have a headphone insert hole, listen to some sample music through the headphones and that should determine whether your speakers are balanced on your computer or not.
to listen to music ?:L
to listen for the music or something. !
Internal speakers are speakers that are mounted inside electronic items such as computers or radios. Unlike an iPod, which requires headphones plugged in, equipment with internal speakers do not require headphones or other speakers to be plugged in.
You can't.
Headphone splitters are a device you can use to plug into your headphone jack and then attach other headphones to it. Headphone splitters make it so you can share music with more than one person at a time, with everyone using their own set of headphones.
A headphone amp is a small device that amplifies power within headphone speakers. They are capable of increasing volume levels, bass performance, improving sonic range and revealing more detail in music.
