Depending on the age (and type) of keyboard - it could be dirt between the contacts preventing the circuit completing - or a worn membrane (they don't last forever !)
Change your key board.
press the shift key 5 timjes and there will be an option to turn sticky keys on or off
it is Ctrl + shift + C then it will come up ;)
Push the shift key 5 times quickly. If that doesn't work, the shortcut is disabled and you will have to go to Start -> Control Panel -> Accessibility Options. Then, Uncheck "Use Stickykeys"
Try the other shift key. If the key works in other contexts, then it means the function key is not programmed in that application to work with Shift.
pressing the SHIFT key 5 times turns on the stickykeys. Stickykeys lets you use the SHIFT, CTRL, ALT or Windows Logo keys by pressing one key at a time.
Check the fuses- Shift interlock is the same circuit as brake lights. As a temporary measure - try to turn the key to 1st (unlock) position shift to neutral to start vehicle and then shift to Drive.
try the tilde over the right hand shift key, if that doesnt work try the key directly above tab to open the console
You can use the 'sticky keys' function. Sticky keys remembers you've pressed the SHIFT, FN or CTRL keys, and wait for you to press another key to go with it. To turn on sticky keys - Click on Control Panel > Make the keyboard easier to use > Turn on Sticky Keys > APPLY > OK. To turn them off - repeat the previous steps, and remove the tick from the box.
