Have you put you foot on the foot brke as you mover the shifter.
Try your brake lights. There is a sensor under the brake pedal that will go off if you don't have any. This should be an easy fix.

Be sure to apply the brake before trying to shift out of park. If you apply the brake and the car still won't shift out of park, do not try to force it. The problem could be a failure of the mechanism that releases the shifter.

You did not have to apply the brake on a 91 model to shift it. There's nothing wrong.

The shift mechanism is only allowed to move from park if and when the brake pedal is pressed. Possible causes are, faulty brake pedal switch, shift interlock solenoid, wiring, or broken shift button. Possible shift linkage or transmission problem. Find the procedure for "bypassing or overriding the shift interlock" for further diagnosis.

Into Park or out of Park?
you need to get it checked out..you shoulnt have to push it each time..but if that is how yours is working right now...yes each time you put it into park you will have to press it

If you do not have your car turned on the vehicle will not shift out of park. You also have to have your foot of your brake.
