I have an 89 Mazda b2200 and all i did was mess with the timing and it started to run better,a but a friend suggested that I pull the distributor shaft and turn it a notch.
If it vibrates at idle and runs good under under full throttle, you have a vacuum leak. It can also be defective spark plugs or plug wires.
My Mazda 656 DX 1996 purrs when it's cold. It runs terrible since I moved to South Florida.

I have a 1989 929, when its cold it runs real bad but once warmed up it has problems idleing, the car shakes and sometimes when stopped it stalls, mine is an auto, but when driving like on the highway it runs fine. Is your problem similar?
Does it miss on acceleration or at idle? If on accel I would be looking at the plugs and wires
The idle adjustment screw is on the back of the motor on the driverside. stand on the driverside up by the brake master cylinder look under the vacuum hose that runs on the back of the intake. the idle air screw is there under the hose. good luck!
check vac hose's for damg. or hole
I have 200,+ miles on the car. I change the plugs and wires yet it runs rough at idle and runs smooth at crusing speed. What can i do?
