There is no definitive answer to this question, this is due to the fact that different computer setups and different Operating Systems will greatly increase or reduce your shut down time. If you would like to give me some details I would be more than happy to attempt to answer your question though.

sometimes times you will have updates that are ready to install, you can see it down in the system tray, a little Shela icon, when you go to shut down, a small box will be under your turn off box that says don't turn off, the or installing, when it gets done the computer then turns off.. but I think you want to know why? it's not shutting down right. they could be, you tried to shut down while you had programs & browsers still running, or the shut down order has gotten corrupted, could a Trojon/malware, where a bot is tracking you, & it wants you to stay connected, so you can come back to a site you were on & buy something, so your computer is hung. to way you get rid of it is delete cookies & temp files & history. finally you just have to hold down the start button till it goes off, the computer has already saved your settings.

∙ 15y agoYour computer is most likely slow to shut down because there are too many processes running, so the system has to safely close all of them.
If you want to fix this, press Ctrl+alt+delete and then go to processes tab and close all under your username that you use to log into the computer. Once that is done try shutting down the computer. It should run faster.
If you need to shut it down in a case of emergency, hold the power button for 15 seconds and it will shut down at the end.

Hi if you are having turbel with viruses on your lap top or pc i sagest you get this it helpt me and i dot have any viruses any more. Just remove the spaces in link it is a good dell for Norton. Hope it helps
