Too many reasons to list but here are a few:

Spark plugs failing to ignite your fuel/air mixture enough

The O2 sensor may be bad and starving your engine

Misfire in the timing

If its turbo-ed you may have a gasket/seal leak

If it is a manual transmission, a sensor may be bad (i.e Neutral safety switch)

Fuel leak

Oil leak (If you have the turbo and have an oil leak DO NOT DRIVE the car without checking the oil first, if the turbo does not get cooled by the oil, it will blow which can cause serious injury)

Why would your 94 stall for no reason?

The first thing I would try would be cleaning the throttle body with some carb and choke cleaner. When they get really dirty it can cause you to stall at slow speeds. On my 93 there is a Crank Shaft Position sensor. Mine started to melt and the jeep stalled at weired times for a week. If your jeep has a lock up solenoid in your tranny and its stuck on, then you will stall at stops Not sure about a 94, but my 2000 would stall while driving at highway speeds. Dealer replaced the oxygen sensor and it fixed the problem.

What would stall an engine?

overheating it would. Or if it was stick not being in the right gear trying to find the system causing it would help, if the air intake or filter was so clogged it couldn't suck air it could stall, and low fuel pressure could also make it stall rather slowly. Bad electrical connections could cause a quicker stall.
