Check the firing order which is 1-3-4-2 , if it is correct you may need to have a wet and dry compression test to check the condition of the valves, rings etc.

No , it has a coil pack for the 6 engine cylinders

It's E.D.I.S. ( Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ) with 1 coil pack for the 6 cylinders , so no distributor coil---3---4 pack--2---6 plug---1---5

A 1998 Ford Taurus uses the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ( EDIS ) with a coil pack , so there is no distributor

Six unless you have a Ford Taurus SHO wich comes with a V8

The distributor is at the front of the 3.8 L - V6 engine - so COUNTERCLOCKWISE
